helping you save on your dental care
With dental insurance, more families are able to get much-needed preventive care without having to worry about their bank accounts. Our team at South Arlington Smiles is determined to see that you enjoy your dental benefits to the fullest, and to ensure that we can go over your benefits with you and explain what kind of coverage you can expect to receive for specific services. Keep reading below to learn more about the basics of dental insurance.
Understanding How Dental Insurance Works
While dental insurance does offer benefits that can help you pay for restorative treatments, most plans primarily focus on preventive care. In other words, checkups, cleanings, and other preventive services get the most coverage under a typical plan. This is to encourage you to have smaller problems taken care of as soon as possible so that neither you or your insurance company will have to worry about the cost of more complex treatments.
What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers
Each dental insurance plan is structured slightly differently, but most follow the pattern below:
- 80% to 100% coverage for preventive checkups, cleanings, and X-rays.
- 50% to 80% for restorative care. (Minor treatments such as fillings will usually get higher coverage than a more extensive treatment like tooth extraction.)
- No coverage for elective treatments, which applies to most cosmetic services.
You can get in touch with your insurance provider to clarify your benefits. We can also go over your coverage with you if you need help understanding.
We Offer In-Network Savings & Welcome Out-of-Network Providers
When you hear about “in-network” versus “out-of-network” insurance coverage, you may be unsure of what that means. Simply put, we’re more than happy to accept out-of-network providers and will file the necessary claims on your behalf; however, if we are in-network with your insurance company, you’ll save more money. Be sure to confirm whether or not we’re part of your insurance carriers network before you arrive for your appointment. While we can work with out-of-network insurances, we’re proud to be a part of these networks:
- Aetna
- Ameritas
- Cigna
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- Delta Dental
- GEHA
- Guardian
- Humana
- Lincoln Financial
- MetLife
- Principal
- United Concordia
- United Healthcare
- + many more!
